In How Many Languages Can You Count?

Tubby is bilingual. Having a Swedish speaking papa and an English speaking mama make him so.  We have been counting fingers and toes for a long time now and it has finally paid off!  Today while explaining that our recycling truck will be here in one week, I counted seven fingers. When I had completed my counting, Tubby said, "eight, nio, tio."

After hysterically laughing, I realized he understands that I was counting and the proper sequence of numbers. I am not sure how much a two and a half year-old is supposed to know, but I am giddy about this accomplishment :) Tubby can count in two languages.

  1. That's so awesome! I'd love for my kids to learn a second language, but neither hubs nor I know more than a few words in other languages. Your child will have some great experiences because of this ability you're blessing him with!

  2. Keep up the good work! It is so easy to just drop the Swedish... but don't. We were REALLY good about speaking Norwegian to the kids when we lived in the US.. and I speak only English to them, now that we live in the states... best advice I can give is to have your child speak Swedish back to his dad... so easy to understand but speak back in English.. giving the child a second language is such a gift! Good luck.
