Cloth Diaper FAIL

[Please note that I waited and hoped and this is the last resort for me to unfortunately and reluctantly publish my negative experience here.]

I was excited to get a custom diaper cover in a 'passport stamp' fabric, unbelievably appropriate as we had just flown across the ocean. After just a few washes and one week of wear, this is what happened to the aplix, on both sides.  The store owner suggested I send back the diaper so she could 'see' for herself. I should have seen trouble coming when that was all she said...

I wrote the shop owner both through etsy and email. I even tried twitter. (Her account is now curiously private.)  No response. For 2 months. I wrote her again and explained the reasonable options that I thought would work for any business whose customer is experiencing a problem.
1. Repair the diaper
2. Replace the diaper
3. Return the diaper

Which option did this shop owner take? NONE. She said she had never seen this before. She didn't know what to do.  That is why she hadn't responded to me at all.  Two months of silence and no action.  I was disappointed and sad. And now confused and mad.

If nothing else, I suggested again, returning my diaper was the simplest step to end this hopeless situation. I am sure I could have hand sewn my own new aplix since she was unwilling to do so.

She refused to send it back to me. I still have no diaper cover. Just a really, really bad taste in my mouth.

What do you think? Could things have turned out differently?

  1. Oh what a bummer :( If you going to sell something you should really be accountable for it! It makes everyone skeptical then of other sellers :( Sorry this happened.
    Blessings!

  2. Oh my gosh!! That is horrible!! She really needs to stand behind her product! I'm sorry if she's never seen it before, she needs to fix it. Can you file a complain through ETSY? I sure would!! And Paypal if you paid through them.

  3. Gosh....and I bet these aren't cheap either. That's too bad..well I'm hoping you do get another one or your money back. Not good for her though.

  4. Geez! Take about professionalism! If you don't know how to run a business, quit!!! Terrible! But honestly, you should just forget all about it and move on... Stuff like this happens all the time and unfortunately, when it happens to us, it gives us the worst feeling in the world... But we need to let go and move on, there's no point on dwelling on stupid people's mistakes... or incompetency for this matter!

  5. I'm sorry to hear that. It's sad when business owners can't take responsibility for issues. Good customer service brings repeat customers over and over! Bad customer service, well there's no worse advertising for your business.

  6. Wow, this is NOT acceptable. She has the cover you should have your money! An immediate refund is in order!

  7. That's too bad. Great customer service could have gone a long way for her shop and help her gain more sales.
Too many people go into a business without REALLY considering how much work it is and so they bail as soon as it gets tough.

  8. Wow! I've heard of bad business but this lady just seems beyond rude. I don't understand people like that. I would definitely file a complaint with etsy and then just try to forget it....or you could right a review on your blog just so others can be aware of the bad business.

  9. It's always unfortunate when something like this happens. Definitely doesn't show good customer support on her part. If you paid for this then of course it's frustrating to have the hassle. But if this was for a review, then you did the right thing by contacting her first, waiting the 2 months and now sharing your story with us. So far I've only had one product self destruct after (1 washing) and the company sent me a pre-paid mailing package to send it back.

  10. I'm sorry that happened. Can you leave feedback on her page? Or is that what you meant by she's gone private? Whenever I see that on eBay, I avoid the seller because I know they are hiding something.

Curiously enough, her diapers all appear to be SNAP closures now. It wouldn't have been that difficult to offer you a replacement in snap closure until she can figure out her issue with the velcro! The Gal at Change-Diapers just did a review on those in June too. I wonder if they had any issues.

    1. I haven't had any issues, but mine is snap and I haven't used it a ton because it's still a bit big on my son's skinny legs!

  15. She didn't even send it back?! That is AWFUL! I sew diapers and covers, and I know as a busy mom with 3 special needs kids there is always a possibility I could make a mistake because I am human after all, not a facility, BUT not doing anything about it is unacceptable (and I obviously try very hard not to, of course!)! Yes, it would be embarrassing, but not taking care of the situation doesn't make it any less embarrassing - in fact, I think it makes it worse!! What shame! :(

  16. I sewed diapers for free for some one with special needs children and a very tight budget when one of them had problems she gave it back to me to repair. This problem may not even be her fault there may have been a problem with the Apix that was shipped to her but as a responsible person selling handy work I would think it good business to fix problems. Sorry your having such a bad esperience
