In a word, Tegu is addictive. Tegu blocks are simple and yet complex at the same time. Why? It's not just some blocks you build with. You can't stack them up and stand back. These unique wooden blocks are magnetic. That one characteristic is what makes this set fun, addictive and confounding all at the same time.
The Endeavor set from Tegu is a 22 piece block set for ages '0 to 99.' So Tubby, 3, and Mama, not yet 99, were a perfect pair to try these blocks out. We got the tints set which is full of different brightly-colored blocks.
Tubby was busy doing color and size stacking while I tried my darndest to get a handle on building with them. Since the blocks are magnetic, they can only go together in certain ways. The positive pole needs a negative pole to attach to. This makes building exciting and sometimes surprising. You have one piece your are dying to attach to your creation, but as you near it, the piece in your hand pops off and attaches itself! Or the piece tries desperately to turn around so it can attach properly! These blocks are alive :)
After repeated tries, I managed to create two 'scenes' with all the blocks.
Tegu is magnetic in more than one way: I just can't put them down! Not only are these blocks a way to keep kids of all ages creatively thinking, they are also a means to great ends for the people of Honduras. You can learn more about Tegu in this video. They are actively involved in job creation, natural resource renewal and investment in education. Thanks to this great business for sponsoring a set of their irresistible blocks for the winner of my Keeping Kids Creative prize! Disclosure: I was provided a free product for review. The opinions in this review are my own true experiences. However, yours may be different.
i dont know if my comment before showed up? well, i was saying it would be fun to let the kids play with these without telling them they were magnetic and watch them figure it out
Blocks are such a great way for kiddos to use their imagination and it gets their engineering skills honed. This block set looks similar to regular blocks but the magnetic part adds a lot of interest to them. These would definitely be something I would like to purchase in the future for my son. I think he would truly enjoy them.
My 17 month is just starting to enjoy blocks, so I think she would really have fun with these!
