We're just doing potty training this week. It is going well. My tip: let them go naked. Really! Somehow it works!
ReplyDeletePotty training in the summer is nice if you can, as the idea is to put the child in normal underwear and let them play outside. If they wet their underwear then the mess will be outdoors and then you instruct them to go to the bathroom since most children don't like it running down their legs. you could do it in the house too, just don't plan to go anywhere that day. Rewards are helpful too.
ReplyDeleteI have no experience with potty training. Sorry! Good luck, though!
ReplyDeletewe'll be starting potty training soon
ReplyDeleteThe best tip I can give you - Consistency!!
ReplyDeleteI think my little man is almost ready to start potty training. He keeps pulling off his diapers and can walk and stand on his own.
ReplyDeleteI am not currently potty training. I have potty trained three- one boy and two girls. Don't let them see you frustrated and get really excited when you have a potty success. :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't started potty training my youngest yet, he's only 1 and no where near ready. But, with my oldest it really was about taking it slow and waiting for him to be ready. It took quite a bit of time for him to be ready, but when he was it was a one day thing and there was no turning back!
ReplyDeleteI have potty trained four. The best advice I can give is to wait until they say they are ready. Otherwise, it stresses both out, and it's a messy adventure! This is a different age for each. One of mine was 14 months and hasn't had an accident since, and three were almost 4 before we were accident free!
ReplyDeletedon't push it they will do it when they are ready
ReplyDeleteI don't have any experience with it yet. But I wish you the best of luck!
ReplyDeleteWe just barely started. NO tips. We are lost.
ReplyDeleteI recommend lots of praise when they go in the potty!
ReplyDeleteI've potty trained one, working on potty training my second and Ec'ing my baby. 5 years ago I wou,d have had a ton of advice for you but now that I've done it I have very little advice! Be patient and stay calm; they'll get it when they get it and every kid is different.
ReplyDeleteI have a 20 month old son who will be potty training sometime soon. My first son (who is 7) was very motivated by a reward system. I put a bunch of small toys in a bag and hung it on the back of the bathroom door. Every time he used the potty he got a toy! I am due with a girl this summer and look forward to cloth diapering another baby.
ReplyDeleteOur oldest is and honestly he did it himself. One day we just stripped him naked and I would remind him and he would go. Then the next day he said no mommy I can do it myself and he has every since. I just remind if it seems like a long time
ReplyDeleteWe potty trained in the summer & I waited until they were showing signs that their bodies were ready. {Staying dry over night}
ReplyDeleteWe have not started potty training yet.
ReplyDeleteI have potty trained 6 children and it was different with everyone. I am a homeschooling mommy and have successfully taught them how to read and do math but I would love to outsource potty training! With my 4 yr. old I had to resort to chocolate chip bribes. Having had bedwetters I will tell you what the urologist told me. 1. Make sure they're not holding it for long periods of time. Every 2 hours between potty visits, max. and 2. Avoid constipation at all costs! Miralax is your friend (but try prunes first).
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is 16 months old so hopefully we will be starting potty training soon!
ReplyDeletejbang0331 at yahoo dot com
We haven't started yet but would be starting very soon.
ReplyDeleteWe have a potty chair and I offer it often. Sometimes he will use it. Once spring comes I think we will do more diaper free time.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is 1 so we haven't started potty training yet.
ReplyDeletejust got my grandson potty trained. We talked about it with him for a good while before actually started.
ReplyDeleteReward system, once you start stay away from pull ups and diapers. start when they can sleep through a nap without wetting and when they show interest~ Father of 6, 4 potty trained completely by 2!!
ReplyDeleteWe've not yet begun potty training, but will be on the lookout for cues....
ReplyDeleteWe are still working on it for naps and night, but during the day, we did no pants for a few days and then straight to underwear. I think that pull-ups are confusing.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is 2 and she will not go in the potty.
ReplyDeleteWe havent started yet but thinking about it.
ReplyDeleteI haven't started yet, but I am starting my stash
ReplyDeleteOur first one is potty trained (except during night) and I dont have any tips because it was all her!
ReplyDeletei'm pregnant with my first so i am not even thinking about potty training
ReplyDeletehaven't started yet, but he is showing interest, so it wil lbe soon!

we put fruit loops in my son's potty and made a game out of it, learning through play
ReplyDeleteI potty trained 1 child so far. What worked for him was to let him go without anything on his bottom for a couple days, there were a couple messes, but he knew when he had to go, he was 22/23 months. Child #2 is 20 months and has started telling me when she is wet, but it isn't till after, we'll see how well she trains. :-)
ReplyDeleteWe are doing EC so we started potty training at 2 months.
ReplyDeleteWhat is EC?
DeleteWe've just started potty training, so far so good. No accidents!
ReplyDeleteNot starting yet but soon!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is only 6 months, so no potty training here. My SIL just potty trained her oldest son. Rewards seem to be working for him (in his case, toy cars), but most importantly, waiting until he was ready (a bit over 3 years old). They tried it earlier, but it sort of backfired on them. They started back up once he started showing some interest.
ReplyDeleteNo potty training yet my son is only 4 months, but friends and family have used stickers or candy as incentives..
ReplyDeleteMy LO just turned 2 so we are just about to start training. No tips yet!
ReplyDeleteWe do lots of no pants time when we're home.
ReplyDeleteIt yet but I want to be prepared! - Claiborne Snyder
ReplyDeleteWe are not potty training now.
ReplyDeleteno tips
ReplyDeleteWe are not. The hubs would love for our 2 1/2 yr old to start, but he isnt ready, no matter how long we try.
ReplyDeleteMy toddler is 18 months old and is not showing any signs of interest in the potty. My oldest did potty train until she was 3 so she's probably going to be about the same.
ReplyDeleteI'm PTing #7. What has worked best is nakey time. Grab a comfy dress or long t-shirt and let them loose. There will be accidents to clean up, but it seems to have worked well overall for our kiddos. Also, look for WunderUnders Hybrid trainers. The WAHM has come up with a great product.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is almost 3 and she has been pooping on the potty for a year now but we are still struggling with getting her to consistently pee on the potty
ReplyDeleteI am about to start
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win!
I have potty trained one and will be potty training my twins in the near future. I suggest waiting till they are ready and not forcing the issue. I did that with my oldest and it was not stressful at all and we had only a handful of accidents.
ReplyDeletewere about to start but not quite there yet!
ReplyDeleteHaven't started yet, but I'm sure it'll be an adventure!
ReplyDeleteWe have introduced our 2 year old to the potty, but he doesn't seem quite ready yet.
ReplyDeleteWe're not there yet so I have no advice!
ReplyDeletei havent started yet but all I know is to just stick with it, unless your child is just really really not ready yet
ReplyDeleteWe are trying to now, some days are better than others
ReplyDeleteno my little guy is 1 year. i am looking foward to ideas for when its our turn!
ReplyDeleteWe are just getting ready to start potty training.
ReplyDeleteThe hardest lesson for me: wait until they are truly ready. If you try to push it too early, you'll both end up frustrated and disappointed.
ReplyDeleteMy son has figured out how to make it through the day, now we're trying to figure out how to stay dry at night.
ReplyDeleteI am potty training my 3rd child, and they have all proven to be different. Since I am home all day I let my son run around naked so that it's easy for him to tell when he has to go. Also I have the potty chair in the living room so that he can get to it quickly.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to potty train my second. All I can say is go at their pace, even when it seems to be taking forever. Pushing them when they aren't ready can make the regress and resent the bathroom. We're trying again when it gets warm out and can let him be naked outside.
ReplyDeleteNope, but we attepmt EC (and fail a lot.)
ReplyDeletedo it in the summer for less clothes/ no clothes to wash, you get less stressed, and they tend to do better
ReplyDeleteThe only issue we had was with my son - he would hate to poop, hated the feeling, he was scared??,he would keep his poop in for 7-9 days at a time, physically hurting from holding it in, and then it would just come out, uncontrollably, whereever, and he couldn't stop it. poor guy. The doctor really didn't have any suggestion. We coaxed him with treats, nut it rarely worked. He eventually just got better with it. It went on for quite a while. abrennan09@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is JUST starting potty training, and I quickly learned be patient and not to make it a battle.
ReplyDeleteWe are JUST starting to potty train. Not sure how it'll go...
ReplyDeletewe are starting potty training soon. eeekkkkk
ReplyDeleteMy oldest son is almost entirely potty trained (a tiring 2 year process!) and hopefully his little brother will begin soon!
ReplyDeleteThe best piece of advice that I can give is to not become frustrated and understand that your child will go when ready. I tried every trick under the sun...and nothing seemed to work! Finally, I just kept him in underwear, told him to try to use toilet 30 minutes after eating or drinking and eventually he got it.
Not quite there yet... soon maybe
ReplyDeleteWe've been potty training for a little bit fairly inconsistent. Some day he will get it.
ReplyDeletei have some that have and some not
ReplyDeleteWe haven't started with this one since he's only 13 months. It took forever to potty train my daughter.
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to potty training we just wait until the child is ready. Its just to stressful on both if we push them. Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteI've helped with the kids I babysit for and waiting until they are ready really helps. At almost 3, I had one accident with one of the kids. Just one. She was ready at that point.
ReplyDeleteThe best advice is to wait until the child is ready
ReplyDeleteWe did 'elimination communication', so we followed Baby's signs and put him on the potty at around 6 months. He was fully potty trained by 2. (Probably could have been sooner if we'd been more dedicated, but we were pretty laid back about it.) I say the sooner the better -- The longer you wait, the more comfortable they've gotten with being wet/soiled. As babies, they still hate being wet and will avoid it!
ReplyDeleteMy other tip is cloth diapers in general, so that they can really feel when they're wet.
I definitely think the sonner the better now. We wait until our boys were 2 1/2 and it took forever to train them. Our daughter is 17 months and almost fully trained and it has only taken 2 weeks.
ReplyDeletePatience is what is need when potty training!
ReplyDeleteMy little one won't be here for another few months, but I do look forward to potty training days.
ReplyDeletePotty training can be a lot of fun if you keep your child involved with the process. Let him pick out the underwear and potty seat so he'll feel like a "big kid." Keep it casual and let him lead.
ReplyDeleteWe have started some. We don't pressure her. We wait until she tells us she has to go. She's picked out some Disney Princess underwear.
ReplyDeleteNo experience potting training yet!
ReplyDeleteI have not yet... About to though!
ReplyDeleteI haven't yet but we need to, I know my son could do it.
ReplyDeleteWith my oldest I just started a potty schedule we put him on every couple hours until he decided he was ready to use the potty all the time. It worked really well for us.
ReplyDeleteNot my third son. I successfully potty trained two already! Hoping the third is just as easy. My only advice is to wait until they are ready- don't push it. My son was stubborn- we tried and tried and as soon as we stopped trying, a few weeks later he was doing it on his own!
ReplyDeletePlanning to start in the spring when there won't be a need to take off so many clothes every time we go to the potty.
ReplyDeleteI never used training pants for my girls I just switched to big girl panties...lets see how this will go with a boy
ReplyDeleteI haven't started potty training yet, but it will happen soon! I've always been told to wait until they're ready.
ReplyDeleteWe haven't tried potty training but are quickly approaching that age, my little one is showing a big interest in the bathroom and I am thinking that is sign number one that she may be headed in that direction.
ReplyDeleteoddball2003 at hotmail dot com
Yes, we've started with our oldest. Still working on night time toilet training though, with not much luck. For daytime, we got her really cute underwear that she didn't want to pee on.
ReplyDeleteMy kids are potty trained, but there's always next time!
ReplyDeletei tried for one day but my oldest didnt potty train until she was 3 so i'll just wait a little longer but i really wanted to potty train her before her baby brothers here in may
ReplyDeleteWe have not started potty training yet, byt are approaching it quickly. My son will be 2 in june and is starting to tell me when he needs a clean/dry diaper
ReplyDeleteJust potty trained my 5th child a few months ago. Best advice is to not start too early, and Elimination Communication is ridiculous!
ReplyDeleteCatherine BW
I'm not at the potty training stage yet. Sorry that I can't help you out.
ReplyDeleteThe best advice I can give you is to not panic if it does not go the way you planned, I can almost guarentee by kindergarten it will be done. Life is too short to worry about potty!
ReplyDeleteNope, none for both questions. Sorry, hope it all goes well for you!
ReplyDeletenot yet - my baby is still cooking!
ReplyDeletenot started yet- keep hope up!
ReplyDeleteWe're nowhere near potty training and have no idea where to start with that!
ReplyDeleteWe are all done potty training, and my advise is, they will learn when they are ready :)
ReplyDeletewe haven't started just yet, but it is coming soon. At daycare they have started putting our daughter on the potty to get her thinking about it.
ReplyDeleteWe haven't yet started training (he's only 15 months), but we're watching for signs of readiness!
ReplyDeleteOur son is 24 months but pretty much let us know he was ready to start potty training before he was 2! Slow but sure progress. Naked time (elimination) is the best method! Oh and rewards for progress after those backsliding incidents.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I have followed you on twitter but didn't want to grant access to GT. It allows them to "post on my behalf"...? But I follow you! :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't started potty training yet, but my sister swears by the book "Toilet training in less than a day".
ReplyDeleteNo, I haven't started potty training yet, but can't wait to read your blog when you figure it out.
ReplyDeletei have a 4 year old that is potty trained but wears a diaper to bed. i also have a 15 month old that we will start potty training soon. :)
ReplyDeleteWe haven't started yet. but wish me luck when I do because it will be my son and the girl I am a nanny for potty training at the same time.
ReplyDeleteHaven't started yet
ReplyDeletehaven't started yet
ReplyDeleteI have not started yet because my son is only 1 1/2.
ReplyDeleteWe are just starting with our youngest. Letting him set the pace for now, trying not to put too much pressure on him, while encouraging at the same time.
ReplyDeletedefinitely not to potty learning in my house yet
ReplyDeleteim looking for tips myself lol my daughter wont use her potty at all and im trying to get her potty trained before her little brother gets here in may
ReplyDeleteWe haven't started PLing yet but will be soon enough. Right now, I'm no help!
ReplyDeleteI mention the potty a lot to my son but he doesn't want to use it yet :( I hope he changes his mind before our baby on the way gets here.
ReplyDeleteBest tip I was given was to let her run NAKED in the house for days! That's the best! :)
ReplyDeleteOur son wanted to be like daddy so when he was ready, he imitated daddy.
ReplyDeleteI have PT my 3 year old, and have a 10 month old baby. Plan to PT this December.
ReplyDeleteMy best tip is naked ness. We have way more success with our daughter when she's naked. She is finally telling us she has to go when she has clothes on. My other best tip - start when they are born. We started putting our son on the potty at 4 months, and I'm so glad. We can go all day without a diaper, or he will go in his diaper a bunch, depends on how attentive I am.
ReplyDeleteMy first baby is still in the womb. I plan on CDing and ECing though. All I know is it's good for children to feel the wetness in their diaper.
ReplyDeleteMy tip is to not push your lo, wait for them to show some signs of readiness.
